Topic #1: Men wearing make-up
-

It's not uncommon to find men wearing make-up, especially in the entertainment industry. In the post-hippie era of the early 1970's there was a style that emerged in the UK coined "Glam Rock" or "Glitter Rock",  which included musicians and singers who wore very outrageous clothes, tons of make-up, with big, overly teased hair and platform shoes. Some of those musicians included: KISS, David Bowie, Twisted Sister, Gary Glitter, Boy George, etc.  The irony was that most of these "glam rockers" were heterosexual, complete with large herds of female groupies.

Pictured above is Adam Lambert, the runner-up on the eighth season of American Idol.  If you didn't watch the show or aren't familiar with him as an artist, he's very talented...more like extremely talented. The kid can belt it out!  If you haven't already noticed, Adam has on a full face of make-up in the picture above: foundation, bronzer/blush, colored-in brows, eyeshadow, glitter, eyeliner & lip gloss.  What differentiates Adam from the "glam rockers" is how he is choosing to wear his make-up. Unlike the "glam rockers" of the 70's and 80's, who wore full on face paint, Adam's look is different: glamorized. Like most women, Adam is accentuating his facial features instead of manipulating or altering them with make-up.

With that said, I have a few questions regarding men wearing make-up, especially in 2010.

1. Do you think men wearing make-up lessens a man's masculinity? Why? OR Why not?
2. Do you think men wearing make-up is just another form of creative expression? Why? OR Why not?
3. Do you think men wearing make-up is just masking some form of insecurity? Why? OR Why not?
4. If you were to see a man in a full face of make-up, does your mind automatically think of homosexuality or some other alternative lifestyle choice? Why? OR Why not?
5. Ladies, if you met a heterosexual man that wore make-up, either daily or on occasion, full face or just partial, would you date him? Why? OR Why not?
6. Lastly, are you offended, as a woman or man, knowing that a man has made a decision to emulate something very closely associated with women and femininity?
